Richard graduated from the University of Alabama in business & financial planning and anthropology while also competing as an athlete in track and field and cross country. He was then hired as a judicial intern for the City of Tuscaloosa Municipal Court shortly before attending law school at Florida Coastal School of Law (Coastal).
While at Coastal he was a legislator for the Student Bar Association, founded and chaired the school’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law club, was selected for the Special Task Force on Leadership and Communication Skills, and was elected chair of the statewide Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Committee. He also volunteered with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and led financial literacy classes in local high schools earning him the Pro Bono award for outstanding community service.
As an attorney, Richard has worked with the Jefferson County Probate Court and was appointed as the Law Clerk by the Honorable Judge Alan King. He continued to serve the public as an Estate Planning, Probate, and Tax Planning Attorney with Burton & Associates, the Law Office of Gene M. Sellers, and Dominick Feld Hyde.
Outside of his law practice, he and his family enjoy strolling the Birmingham Rotary Trail, discovering locally-made wares at the Pepper Place Market, exploring state campgrounds, and frequenting the Red Mountain hiking trails.
